Both of you need to be signed in to iCloud on the device, with iCloud Drive turned on — check Settings → [your name] → iCloud. Sharing runs through your own private iCloud account, so if the account is signed out the invitation has nowhere to go. Once they accept, the first sync can take a few seconds.
Sync needs the app to be open on the receiving device at least briefly. Pull down on the list to force a refresh. If a device has been offline for a long time, give it a minute after reconnecting before assuming something is wrong.
Tally needs two permissions for voice, and iOS asks for them separately: microphone and speech recognition. If you declined either, go to Settings → Tally and switch them both on. Transcription happens on your device.
That is expected. Tally records only while it is on screen — it does not listen in the background, and it never records without you tapping to start.
Good light and a flat page make the biggest difference. Text recognition works best on printed or clearly separated handwriting; a dense scrawl with overlapping lines will lose some rows. Anything it misses can be typed in afterwards — the scan adds to the list rather than replacing it.
Check that notifications are allowed in Settings → Tally → Notifications. If they are switched on there but the in-app toggles look enabled while nothing arrives, toggle one off and on again to re-register.
Open the Tally Plus screen and tap Restore Purchases, while signed in to the same Apple Account you bought it with. Purchases are tied to the Apple Account, not the device, so a new phone restores rather than re-buys.
That usually means the App Store couldn't be reached. Check your connection and try again in a moment. If you were charged but nothing unlocked, email me with the date and I will sort it out.
Only through your own iCloud account, and only so your lists reach your own devices and anyone you explicitly share a list with. There is no Tally server, no account to create, and no analytics. The full details are in the privacy policy.
Deleting the app removes its local data. To clear the synced copy as well, go to Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage, find Tally, and delete its data there.
