Private, offline period & cycle diary

Who we are

DotDiary (“the app”) is developed by TechBitsMix (“we”, “us”). You can reach us any time at TechBitsMix@gmail.com. This policy explains what happens to information you enter into the app. In plain terms: it stays on your device, and it stays yours.

What data the app works with

DotDiary is a front-end for Apple’s own Health app. The health information you log — menstrual flow, symptoms, and optional fertility signs (ovulation-test results, cervical-mucus quality, basal body temperature, and intimacy) — is written directly to Apple Health (HealthKit) on your iPhone. DotDiary keeps no separate database or copy of this data. If you delete the app, your entries remain safely in Apple Health.

The one thing stored inside the app itself is the free-text journal notes you choose to write (Apple Health has no note field for this). Notes are saved in a private, file-protected file on your device only.

How your data is used

All processing happens on your device. The app reads your Apple Health cycle history to draw your calendar, calculate statistics, and show cycle-length and symptom-pattern charts and estimated next-period windows. None of this leaves your iPhone. We do not use your health data for advertising, marketing, profiling, research, or any purpose other than showing it back to you inside the app.

What we collect: nothing

We do not collect, transmit, sell, rent, or share your personal or health information — because the app never sends it anywhere. There is no account to create, no email to give us, and no usage analytics. Our App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected.”

iCloud

• Your cycle data lives in Apple Health, which Apple syncs across your own devices, end-to-end encrypted, when you turn on iCloud for Health. That sync is between you and Apple; it does not involve us.
• Journal notes (optional, DotDiary Pro): if you turn on “Back up notes to iCloud,” your notes are copied to your own private iCloud using Apple’s iCloud Key-Value storage, so they appear on your other devices. This never touches a server of ours. Turning the setting off, or deleting the app, stops this.

Sharing and exports

DotDiary only shares data when you explicitly ask it to, using the standard iOS share sheet, and it goes wherever you send it:

• CSV export and the doctor-ready PDF report are generated on your device and handed to the share sheet for you to save or send.
• Partner summary shares only your current cycle day and estimated next-period window — never your symptoms or flow details — as plain text you send yourself.
• CSV import reads a file you pick and writes the period days into Apple Health. The file is not uploaded anywhere.

Once information leaves the app through the share sheet, it is governed by wherever you chose to send it (for example, Messages or Files).

Face ID / passcode and the decoy screen

Optional Face ID / Touch ID / passcode locking is handled entirely by iOS on your device; the app never sees or stores your biometrics or passcode. The optional decoy screen and neutral app icons are on-device privacy features and do not transmit anything.

Notifications

If you opt in to reminders, DotDiary schedules a single, deliberately vague local notification (“A heads-up for the days ahead”) on your device. Local notifications are not sent through any server and contain no sensitive wording.

Children’s privacy

DotDiary is a general-audience health utility that can be used by younger people who menstruate. Because the app collects no personal information from anyone and transmits nothing off the device, it does not knowingly collect data from children or anyone else. Parents and guardians can review a child’s entries in the Apple Health app.

Your control

You are always in control of your data. You can edit or delete any day in the app, delete a whole period, or use Settings → Delete all DotDiary data to remove everything DotDiary wrote to Apple Health plus all journal notes. Entries created by other apps or by Apple Health itself can be managed directly in the Apple Health app. You can also revoke DotDiary’s Health permissions at any time in iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and revise the effective date above. Because we hold no contact information for you, material changes will be reflected here and in the app’s App Store listing.
